JLI is hiring a Social Media Coordinator

October 13, 2021 (Eugene, Ore.) – Journalistic Learning Initiative (JLI) is seeking a Social Media Coordinator to join its team. This position offers flexible hours and is 100% remote.

About This Position:

The Journalistic Learning Initiative seeks a mission-inspired social media coordinator to support the growth of its educational work in middle and high schools nationally. JLI is an Oregon-based 501(c)(3) organization that empowers students to discover their voice, improve academic outcomes, and engage in self-directed learning through project-based storytelling. 

Ideal candidates will have authentic convictions that align with JLI’s above-stated mission. They will have demonstrated imaginative, effective, and consistent results in creating and managing social media, writing newsletters, press releases, and supporting fundraising initiatives and events. To determine a mutual fit, we seek an initial contractor relationship that can evolve into a full-time position with benefits. 

Compensation is commensurate with experience. 

This position can be performed 100% remotely; however, we would prefer that candidates reside in Oregon. Reimbursement is available to support upgrading home office equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for managing JLI’s social media accounts, email newsletter, website SEM/SEO, analytics reporting, and online marketing initiatives. This position will provide digital marketing and communication strategy, based on available data, to advance JLI’s brand-building and fundraising goals. This position will work closely with the CEO, Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships, Interim Operations Manager, and program staff to develop marketing materials. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

-At least one year of experience as a social media strategist or equivalent.

-Demonstrated ability to track and review analytics to develop actionable recommendations. 

-Knowledge of SEM and SEO strategies.

-Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and equity.

-Ability to work in a dynamic environment with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. 

-Candidate should be highly organized with good follow-through. 

Preferred Qualifications:

-Ability to do front-end website maintenance in WordPress.

-Experience creating email marketing campaigns on platforms such as MailChimp. 

-Experience managing digital advertising campaigns on platforms such as Google Ads and similar.

Status: Contractor, 20 hrs per week
